Tomorrow, popular fitness franchise Xtend Barre officially lands in Old Town Alexandria. Xtend Barre Old Town opens to the public on Saturday, June 14, with classes at 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., and 11:30 a.m., and then an open house from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. with mimosas, refreshments, raffles and giveaways. Want to try the workout, which fuses together upbeat dance and Pilates movements? The studio is offering new client specials, like the opportunity to buy a class for $24 and get a class free.

To celebrate the opening, Xtend Barre creator Andrea Rogers flew in from Florida to teach a special preview master class on Tuesday at Xtend Barre Old Town. And she is the most cheerful, encouraging teacher ever, who actually makes an exhausting plank series seem like tons of fun. Really.

After the workout, we asked Rogers if she had any recommendations for someone trying Xtend Barre for the first time. "I always say for the first class, have fun. Enjoy it, and don't set any expectations. You don't want to leave and say, 'That was just too hard for me.' It's for everybody. I have clients who are college students, and my best client is 74 years old. And let me tell you, she gives those college students a run for their money," Rogers said.
