Shaw residents are gearing up for Solidcore's opening on February 22 at 1805 7th Street NW, with special $15 pricing for new students to book their first class. But that's not the only studio in the works for Solidcore, a three-month-old AdMo-based studio that specializes in Lagree Fitness, AKA high-energy, small-group training classes done on MegaFormer. What's that? Solidcore's website describes it as "a cross between a Pilates reformer and Total Body Gym." Solidcore will open their third studio in April in NoMa at 433 Massachusetts Avenue NW.
"The expansion has always been part of the plan," Anne Mahlum, Solidcore owner and chief motivational officer, told Racked DC. Mahlum said NoMa was a natural fit due to the neighborhood's density, and the windowless space was perfect for Solidcore's calorie-obliterating workouts.
And NoMA is just the beginning. "The goal is to have another three open at the end of the year," Mahlum said. "We really believe in the workout. It's safe — it's super intense without impact." As for the rumors that Michelle Obama is a Solidcore fan? Mahlum said she doesn't talk about her clients, so she couldn't confirm that. Fair enough. Michelle Obama should be able to enjoy a Solidcore workout in peace, and she'll have a few more studios to in Washington to choose from in the near future.
