The Washington Post's Going Out Guide asked a great question yesterday: What's happening with Maketto? The restaurant/cafe/market/coffee shop that will be home to D.C. brand Durkl was supposed to open in February 2012, then October 2013, then maybe December 2013, and here we are, still no Maketto.
But Durkl's founder Will Sharp told the Post more about his retail component, which will focus on menswear. The photo above was posted yesterday on Facebook, so it looks like it might be awhile before Maketto opens — Eater just lists the opening date as early spring 2014 — but Sharp said that preliminary planning includes glass-encased sneakers and the possibility of keeping the clothing store open into the night to keep up with the bar crowd. And there will be some separation between the retail store and the restaurant, so your cool new Durkl snapback won't smell like Vigilante coffee or Maketto's kitchen.
