After 21 holiday seasons, Saturday was the last day for Waygoose Redux gift shop at the Shoppes of Bethesda. Over the years, owner Deborah Simon moved her shop from Rockville to Bethesda Row to Hampden Lane, but she told BethesdaNow it was tough to compete with national chains and Internet shopping. "If you want to support small businesses like this, you need to support them and you need to stop relying on online shopping," Simon said.
BethesdaNow reports that Waygoose is the fourth locally-owned, independent store to close in the Shoppes of Bethesda shopping center in 2013. "If you want something that's not clothing, that's not food, that's gone," Simon told BethesdaNow.
