What's left of the Isabel Marant x H&M merchandise at the shop downtown after this morning's much hyped launch? The men's section was nearly pristine at 9 a.m., with nicely arranged merchandise. The women's section? Not so much.
Before 7 a.m., about 20 people were in line braving the chilly weather, and by 8 a.m., the line stretched to 40 people. The first shopper in line said she had arrived at 4:40 a.m. But the launch was highly organized and pleasant, as these things go. Salespeople assigned colored friendship bracelets to the queue, dividing the line line into three sections.
A sales person told us that the first group ran into the Isabel Marant section, picking up clothing without looking at sizes, with one woman snatching up a whole rack of leather pants.
By the time the second group got in, the leather pants and shoes were gone, but a few fuzzy black and white sweaters, patterned sweatshirts, and beaded jackets remained for this group of shoppers. The crowd was very calm at this point, and sales people brought kids merchandise downstairs to replace the women's items as they disappeared. A sales associate told us there would be no restocking, and everything was on the floor. Shoppers actually tried things on in the fitting rooms, and there was virtually no line for the cash registered. Pretty low-key.
As the third group went in, overcoats, metallic bombers and skirts, and floaty patterned dresses remained, as well as a fair amount of patterned harem-esque pants. We'll be checking in later this afternoon to see what's there if you want to stop by on your lunchbreak. And don't forget to check back in the next seven days. "I'll just return it," a shopper said as she looked through her shopping bag.
