The new Georgetown H&M is celebrating its grand opening at noon today with the usual festivities. There's a DJ, and the first 300 shoppers in line will receive a fashion pass valued from $10 to $300 off purchases. Overseeing the proceedings are D.C. bloggers A Loyal Love, Chain Strap Purse, The Fashionably Broke, and District Sparkle, and they've written that in addition to children's, plus sizes, and maternity, the new store will be among the first to carry H&M's housewares collection. Which is very interesting, to say the least. Even the new monster Times Square H&M opening Thursday morning won't have the Home collection, but a planned Fifth Avenue store will. The first H&M in the country to carry home goods was the New Orleans store, which opened on Halloween. ETA: The New Orleans opening was pushed back to November 16.
The bloggers will also pull the first people who tweet at them and @hmusa with the hashtag #DCLovesHM out of line for early access to the store and a free, styled outfit. Note: the winner will be chosen by 11:15 a.m., so better get to tweeting in line at @aloyallove, @AllyCog, @NatalieandErika, and @districtsparkle. And they also write that the first 300 people in line all get a free T-shirt.
