Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

For Racked Travel Week, we're borrowing an idea from our sister site, Racked SF. They regularly run a column called "Food as Outfit." That's exactly what you think it is — menu items reimagined as outfits. OK, so here's the same idea, but think hotel lobbies instead of food. We have such gorgeous hotels here in Washington, we thought their lobbies could be synthesized to an outfit. Here are three looks inspired by three D.C hotels: the flashy yet refined "Living Room" lobby at W Washington DC, the serene Park Hyatt Washington, and the charming Hotel Monaco in Alexandria. Need more hotel recommendations for out-of-town guests or a stay-cation? Curbed just narrowed their list to 18 outstanding Washington hotels.
