A fire last week on the second level of the building in Logan Circle that houses the Timothy Paul Carpets + Textiles Showroom caused enough water and smoke damage to close the carpet store completely. But Jennifer Sergent of design blog DC by Design discovered that Timothy Paul Carpets + Textiles was only going to be in that location for two more months. Tim Worrell, co-owner of Timothy Paul, told DC by Design that he had planned to move the carpet store across the street to the same location as sister store Timothy Paul Bedding + Home at 1529A 14th Street NW, and now that's just going to happen more quickly than anticipated.
Customers shopping for carpets can visit the brand's bedding store on 14th Street and can also shop in the Mosaic District store. Manager Jeremiah Stapleton posted this on Timothy Paul Home's Facebook page on Saturday:
Last night, there was a fire on the floor above our Timothy Paul Carpets + Textiles showroom at 1404 14th St NW. There was significant property damage and this location is effectively closed. Some of the inventory was lost and most is still intact.
Timothy and Mia opened this location over 10 years ago and we're deeply saddened to see it end this way. Over those 10 years, the company has grown significantly, allowing us to open two additional locations; our Bedding + Home store on 14th Street and our newest location in Merrifield VA.
We've got a lot of work ahead of us, but rest assured we are going stronger than ever. Hand-woven rugs are and continue to be among our specialties. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Always feel free to check in with us at our DC and VA locations. The doors are always open...
While Timothy Paul's owners work on expansion plans for the 14th Street Bedding + Home store, there will be mark-downs on any salvageable carpets from the now-closed store. "The term 'fire sale' is there for a reason, and that's probably what'll happen," Worrell told DC by Design.
