Shopping in Anacostia just got a big boost, thanks to the simultaneous openings of boutiques Nubian Hueman and Vintage & Charmed last weekend in the Anacostia Arts Center. The non-profit organization is part of ARCH Development Corporation's effort to revitalize and redevelop historic Anacostia, ElevationDC reports. The boutiques are the newest addition to the center, which already boasts gallery and theater space and a community wellness hub.
This is the second outpost for Forestville, Maryland-based vintage shop Vintage & Charmed, which stocks unique vintage accessories and clothing — palazzo pants got a mention on their Facebook, for example. Meanwhile, Nubian Hueman specializes in fashion, art, and beauty products that reflect the African Diaspora with a modern twist. Think patterned dresses from emerging designers, ethnic jewelry, and natural lotions and soaps. And as a bonus, Eat Shop Live Anacostia notes that all purchases will be 10% off during the month of September.
